The only real way to work it out for yourself is to blindly fish with random baits until you manage to hook something unusual. It feels like fishing was always meant to be a community affair of pooling knowledge and finding out how to catch things as a group, so no one person was stuck trying to figure out some of the really obtuse mechanics.
