Well, the list of console commands shows one called "randomstart", which apparently teleports you to the lifepod and then randomly relocates the lifepod to one of its possible starting locations. The only lifepod that will be really dangerous is the one that sunk to the ocean bottom: #19 I think. For the others, if you can go deep enough and are careful, you'll be fine.
